Celebrate the holidays with Mannheim Steamroller
in Concert Dec. 7 at the California Theatre in S.B.
Mannheim Steamroller, which sold out its Christmas show in San Bernardino two years ago – returns to town this holiday season when it performs in concert Dec. 7 at the California Theatre of the Performing Arts, 562 W. Fourth St.
The 8 p.m. holiday concert is a presentation by the City of San Bernardino Economic Development Agency. Tickets are $38.50-$77.50, available through www.ticketmaster.com, www.livenation.com, or the theater box office at (909) 885-5152.
Headed by founder Chip Davis, Mannheim Steamroller, has created a remarkably varied body of work. Davis has written, arranged and recorded more than 35 albums, including eight in the “Fresh Aire” series, 18 Christmas albums and compilations, and four Halloween albums.
He has sold more than 40 million records, including 27 million Christmas records alone, making the group one of the top 50 top selling musical artists of all time, and the biggest selling Christmas artist of all time.
In 1984 Davis decided to release a Christmas album, despite the fact that holiday music was not popular at the time. Instead, he decided to approach the genre differently: holiday classics interpreted in new, contemporary ways.
His modernized, electronic version of “Deck the Halls” hit Top 40 radio and 5 million copies immediately sold. Since then, 9 million copies of the album have been sold. Subsequent Christmas releases also have been big sellers, as well as the group’s annual holiday tours.
