‘Forever Tango’ on stage at the California Theatre
“Forever Tango,” starring two-time “Dancing With the Stars” champion Cheryl Burke, will be presented Jan. 19, 2012, at the California Theatre of the Performing Arts.
The 8 p.m. program, presented by the City of San Bernardino Economic Development Agency, is two hours of tango in all its forms: music, singing, and the dance performed by couples and as a troupe.
Tickets to the show are $38.50-$77.50, available through www.ticketmaster.com, www.livenation.com, or the theater box office at (909) 885-5152.
Created by Luis Bravo, the show’s focus isn’t just on any tango, but the imaginative, creative and sensual Argentine tango, and creates a showcase for the worldwide dance phenomenon.
The show’s professional dancers create the world famous dance in every imaginable way, while musicians paint a musical picture that “inspires and teases.”
Burke is the first two-time champion of ABC’s “Dancing With the Stars.” She won first with 98 Degrees member Drew Lachey in the second season, and her second with retired Dallas Cowboys star Emmitt Smith in the third season.
She also appeared in the television show’s fourth through twelfth seasons, partnering with such actors as Ian Ziering, Cristian de la Fuente and Giles Marini.
Burke also teamed up with entertainer Wayne Newton, former U.S. House of Representatives leader Tom DeLay, and NFL star Chad Ochocinco.
“Forever Tango” played originally in San Francisco’s Theatre on the Square in 1994, where it ran for 92 weeks. It later toured in the summer and fall of 1996 and into 1997, with performances in London, Chicago, Los Angeles, Toronto, Boston and other major cities.
The critically acclaimed musical moved to Broadway in 1997, where it was staged for more than a year, and gathered multiple Tony and Drama Desk Award nominations. It later toured throughout the world.
